The Drumrunie Forest Estate

Dear Member of the wider Drumrunie Community,

Members of the Coigach Community Council attended meetings of the Assynt Foundation when that body was being set up to consider the possibility of registering an interest, on behalf of the Assynt Community, in the possibility of a buy out of property placed for sale on the open market by the Vesty Trustees.

The wider Drumrunie Community consists of everyone listed on the Current Full Electoral Rolls for the postcodes, IV262YL, IV262YJ, IV262YH, IV262YF, IV262YG, IV262YN, IV262YW, IV262YP, IV262YR, IV262YS, IV262YT, IV262YB, IV262YQ, IV274LR, IV262TW, IV262TP, IV274HH, IV274LR, IV262XY, IV274HJ, and IV274HF.

We therefore invite you, as a member of the wider Drumrunie Community to express your views on Registering an Interest in a Community Buyout of the Drumrunie Forest Estate and if you so wish, to join this Company as a Member. This will not affect your membership of the Assynt Foundation.

The Data Protection Act places restrictions on the use of Full Electoral Rolls and for this reason only the members of the Coigach Community listed on the Current Edited Electoral Roll were balloted by post. (The same restrictions apply to the circulation of this letter). The members of the community were asked whether they were in favour of the community registering an interest in the possibility of a buy out of the Drumrunie Forest Estate and 54% of the Community members balloted, replied positively.

Because of the majority support in the Coigach Community, this Company, (as required by the Act), was set up to further the Community’s interest. A late application to declare an interest in the Drumrunie Forest Estate was sent to SEERAD on Monday the 8th of November 2004.

The Company is limited by guarantee (In case of dissolution), the total guarantee being ONE POUND paid by each Member of the Company.

The Company is managed on behalf of the whole Community by a maximum of thirteen directors appointed by the paid up Members of the Company. Three directorships will be held open for the inclusion of persons with experience in special skills such as land management etc.

Membership will give you the opportunity to participate in the future management of the land that is part of our joint heritage, if our bid is successful.

Chairman.
